I was about to start Curse of Strahd with my gaming group. My son decided it would be really cool to build the entire castle ravenloft. This will be an ongoing set of posts about how we are going about it.
First, it was a lot of looking at all the maps. It ends up being a very tall castle and we may make it just a bit shorter as it ends up far too tall for anywhere to store. The good news is that there are a lot of vaulted ceilings and tall towers that can be shortened a bit without making it unfaithful to the original.
To make the curves easier we will be using cement forms in 12 inch and 8 inch diameter, and for the stairwells a 4-inch diameter drainage pipe. Then using insulation foam for the floors, walls, and interior filling.
The exterior and interior walls are going to be thin sheets of foam textured. Exterior will be 1/4inch or thinner foam strips of stone-looking blocks using a jig from Shifting lands.
All the end-of-school-year activities are making it take some time to complete but hopefully, once school is out for the summer we will begin making tons more progress. Now to buy extra foam and glue sticks for the glue gun.
